Overview
During my internship, I worked with two small business owners at a non-profit charity to develop their brand identities. Through this process, I understood small business challenges and assistance's impact on community growth.
Madam H Beauty Bar
The first entrepreneur that I worked with was a small business owner named Sive. She owned a nail bar named Madam H Beauty Bar. Sive is known for her extroverted personality and close relationships with clientele. Madam H is derived from “Madam Hustler” as Sive is also known to friends and family.

After creating my mood boards and having my entrepreneurs choose a direction for their visual identity, the logo design process began. It was important I shared different options and allowed the entrepreneurs to choose imagery and type.
This logo ideation directly stems from the mood board she chose. I created an illustration of a magnolia flower to represent that determination and strength Sive shows her clients and community.
Tasha’s Beauty Spa
The second entrepreneur that I worked with was a small business owner named Tessa. She owned a spa named Tasha’s Beauty Spa. Tessa wanted her work to bring joy and magic to her clients lives. Tessa was fun and feminine and wanted her brand to represent that as well.

This logo ideation uses a diamond to emphasize the “H” in madam hustler. Sive’s brand is focused on her as the sole employee and her hustler nature is what drives the success of this business.
This mood board emphasizes the femininity Tessa wanted in her brand. We named this mood board “Barbie” and felt that it fit Tessa and her brand wonderfully! Using saturated pinks and offsetting that with creams and browns, it felt fun yet professional.

This mood board represents the magic Tessa wanted to instill in her clients. Going to the spa can be transformative and feel magical. We wanted to emphasize that through the mood board using crystal elements, organic textures and patterns, and pushing a purple color scheme.
This mood board featured elegance. My inspiration for this palette was Tiffany & Co. Tiffany is a highly recognizable brand and is commonly associated with elegance and femininity. I pushed this idea with heavy use of silver and teal elements, classic and fun patterns, and type with heavy contrast in stroke weight.

This logo ideation involves a pink ribbon lacing through the letters. This shows the connection Tessa has across her community and clients.
This logo ideation uses a type inspired by Barbie’s brand and utilizes the crown as an apostrophe signaling the brand is owned and run by Tessa.
This mood board emphasizes the bold confidence Sive exudes. It incorporates saturated colors which speak to the punchy nature of Sive’s personality.
This mood board represents her confidence through a light hearted lens. Via pattern and a softer color palette I wanted to showcase the fun through her process! The experience of getting your nails done by Sive is enjoyable not only because of her artistic brilliance, but also because of her boisterous and hospitable nature.
This mood board constitutes confidence in an understated way. Sive expressed her love for greenery to me and a desire for elegance in her brand. For this mood board, I chose the imagery of a magnolia representing strength. Magnolias are known to blossom in even harsh conditions and I felt this symbolism brought two of her desires to fruition.

This logo ideation emphasizes the interlocking of the M and H letters. I chose to center this ideation around the connection Sive has with her community and clients, therefore, I interlocked the letters to symbolize this.
This logo ideation involves a crown over Tessa’s name. Tessa is the sole employee and part of her services is selling herself. I wanted to relay this message by showing Tessa as the queen.
